“Revitalizing the Practice
of Teaching English to Young Learners in Indonesia (TEYLIN)”

Call for Papers
The dynamic world life and the strategic roles of teaching English, especially to young learners, always encourage a greater need to revitalize the practice of teaching English to Young Learners in Indonesia (TEYLIN). In response to the need, the Committee of 1st National Conference on ELT and Culture at UMK calls for presentation and workshop proposals of the conference to be held in the campus of English Education Department, Muria Kudus University at Kudus (located in the slope of Muria Mountain about 50 kilometers from Semarang, the Capital of Central Java). The presentation may include theoretical and/or empirical (research-based) papers of TEYLIN. Workshops are also welcome. English is the official language for the presentations and submissions of the conference.
Date and Venue:
The conference is conducted on July 19, 2011 (from 8 am to 4 pm) at the Conference Grand Room in the 4th Floor of Rector Building, Kampus Gondangmanis, Bae Kudus, Central Java, Indonesia
Topic Areas of the Conference
The topics of the conference include the TEYLIN-related areas such as: 1) Current Development and Implementation of TEYLIN 2) Policy, Syllabus, and Material Development of TEYLIN 3) Cultural and Linguistic Insights for TEYLIN 4) ICT, Games, Media, Methods, and Assessment/Evaluation for Practices of TEYLIN 5) Local Literature for TEYLIN 6) Psycholinguistic and Sociolinguistic Aspects of TEYLIN Speakers (Invited) for Plenary Sessions The plenary session speakers who will be presenting their views on emerging issues related to the Teaching English to Young Learners in Indonesia (TYELIN) are as follows: 1. Proposals for Parallel Sessions
The presentation and workshop proposals should be submitted no later than May 14, 2011. Proposals to be considered for presentation should preferably be no longer than 300 words with a biography of about 50 words. The proposal should include the title along with the name of the presenter(s) and their affiliation and present the background of the study with theoretical review, methodology, findings and conclusions. Non-Research papers and workshop are also welcome. Send the presentation or workshop proposal and biographical data via e-mail to: teylin.umk2011@gmail.com
Accepted presentation and workshop proposals will be announced on May 21, 2011. Complete papers must be submitted by participants whose proposals are accepted no later than June 21, 2011. Full papers, with an abstract with key words and references, should consist of approximately 5000 words of font size 11, Times New Roman, single spaced, with a top and left margin 1.2 inch, bottom and right margin 1 inch, and written in Letters (8,5 x 11 inch). Conference and Workshop Sessions
Plenary sessions of paper presentation or workshop last for 75 minutes for invited speakers, while a 30-minute session is allotted to a parallel paper presentation and 50 minutes for a workshop. Presentation Papers are to be compiled to make a conference proceeding.
Registration and Conference Fee
The registration now opens. All presenters and participants must do registration and confirm their attendance in the conference via email by June 30, 2011 or earlier. For your information, the committee reserves a right to stop the registration sooner if the number of participants has reached 150 persons. A registration fee of IDR150,000 (one hundred and fifty thousand rupiahs) will be charged for a presenter or a participant. Registration fee shall be transferred to: Atik Rokhayani, S.Pd, M.Pd, Account: 135-00-0739212-7 (Bank Mandiri, KCP Kudus Alun-alun). Please be informed that all participants and presenters (as well as co-presenters) must make payments by June 30, 2011 to attend the conference and that the organizing committee reserve the right to cancel the participation of individuals who have not met the stipulated payment requirements
The fee includes conference kits, certificate, one lunch, and two coffee breaks. Shuttle cars from hotels to the venue (vice versa) are available for participants on the day of the conference (July 19, 2011) only for those who stay in hotels in Kudus. For your information, the committee has made no special arrangement with the hotels regarding the rates.

How to Get to Kudus and Where to Stay
Travel-Service and Executive Bus Service which provide direct route to Kudus are available in nearly all main cities in Java and Bali (Jakarta, Bandung, Bogor, Cirebon, Tegal, Pekalongan, Purwokerto, Jogjakarta, Surakarta, Surabaya, Malang, Semarang, Denpasar). The nearest airports are as follows: A Yani in Semarang (about one hour by car/taxi), Adi Sumarmo in Surakarta (three to four hours), or Adi Sucipto in Yogyakarta (four to five Hours).
To stay in Kudus, there are numerous hotels of various rates available for you to choose at your convenience. Information of hotels in Kudus can be easily found in the website or by internet search engines.
